The end of the RTR is approaching. I’ve started making preparations for the return trip, trailer storage, and I’m concerned about my sanity when I arrive back home to MN.
I have a small group of people here that I’ve quickly become friends with. It’s a great feeling to wake up in the morning, look out the window, and see the rigs of people I know and enjoy spending time with. I know that if I want to talk to any of them, all I have to do is put on my shoes and walk a few steps. There’s practically a guarantee that we’ll have some kind of shared adventure during the day, whether that’s group cooking, going to town and wandering around, or working on some kind of project. I have people here.
When I get back to MN, I’m going to be alone, again. It’s really hard to think about, and I am wishing I didn’t have to go. Yes, having fully automated climate control, hot and cold running water, and all the other amenities of a grid-connected house is nice, but I’m happier with my tribe.
But, I have to go back. The car needs to get sold, I need to catch up on work, taxes need to be filed, the house needs to be cleared out and rented, and I need to make as much money as possible so I can buy a newer truck. My brief departure from the “real world” was needed and has fulfilled me in many ways.
Speaking of a newer truck, I’ve decided to put the trailer in storage here locally in Quartzsite. Every time I’m towing with my current truck, it feels like I’m gambling whether or not I’ll have a terrible accident while towing. I’ve gotten away without any catastrophes thus far, and I’d rather not push my luck. For $40/month, a local RV business will keep my trailer in their gated, secured parking area along with the other RVs. Works for me. When the Texas compound is up and running, I’ll fetch the trailer. Until then, it’ll enjoy some warmer weather.
Today CJ and I are probably going to go into town and take silly pictures with the local attractions. Lee is due back today sometime (he took a day trip to see family somewhere nearby), and I think we’re grilling steaks tonight on the grill. It should be a good day.
